JOHN PADGETT
Chief Experience & Innovation Officer for Carnival Corporation
_________________________________________________________________
John Padgett joined Carnival Corporation in 2014 as the chief experience & innovation officer spanning the company's nine global cruise line brands with a holistic focus on creating exceptional guest experiences. Leading a multi-disciplinary and cross-functional experience and innovation team, Padgett is responsible for guest experience innovation, development, creation and operations integration across creative, digital, technical and operational functions.
In his role, Padgett is creating game-changing guest experiences that are differentiated based on personal interactions, empowered by invisible technology and shared with the world via original media and gaming content.
Carnival took the CES2017 keynote stage to announce the OceanMedallionTM and the world's first experience Internet of Things (xIoT) as the hinge-pins to MedallionClassTM - a next-level guest experience based on personalization and frictionless service delivery. The Medallion and elements of the Ocean Guest Experience Platform already have been on the receiving end of multiple innovation awards including the CES 2019 Innovations Award, New York Design Award, Red Dot Award, Edison Award, ICX Assn Elevate Award, IDTechEX Award, Stevies Award, Skift Design Award-Best Cruise Experience and selected as the 2019 IoT Wearables Innovation of the Year by IoT Breakthrough.
Onboard MedallionClass ships from Princess Cruises, guests enjoy an effortless vacation with enhanced levels of personalization and guest service on board. The Medallion elevates the guest experience by enabling touchless embarkation and disembarkation, frictionless MedallionPay commerce both on and off the ship, and keyless stateroom entry, as well as additional contactless capabilities accessible using smart phones and tablets, including food, drinks and service delivery on demand; way-finding; family and friends locator; first-run movies and live TV on the go; an interactive events and activities planner; and interactive fun.
When the COVID pandemic hit the cruise industry particularly hard, five Princess Cruise ships were MedallionClass. Padgett not only used the pause to accelerate the conversion of the entire Princess fleet of 15 ships into MedallionClass vessels, but also to modify the Medallion to deliver the OceanOrbit contact tracing solution to other brands within the Carnival Corporation.
For Padgett, elevating the guest experience has also meant delivering MedallionNetTM - the best wifi at sea - which is helping to put an end to the cruise industry's dark age of slow connectivity.
On the media front, Padgett has marshalled an ambitious content production initiative that includes six Ocean Originals series that have been distributed on ABC, NBC, A&E, Univision and Telemundo; as well as Carnival's own digital streaming channel called "OceanView," available on Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV and ChromeCast - in addition to an app available on the Apple app store and Google Play, and across more than 80 of its ships.
Prior to Carnival Corporation, Padgett enjoyed an 18-year career with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts where he and his team led the company's shift to guest experiences grounded in personalization, customization, simplicity and connectivity as the vice president of game changer experience development. He spearheaded the invention, development and implementation of guest engagement innovations that include the MagicBand, FastPass+, Disney's Magical Express, Be Our Guest restaurant, Main Entrance access portals and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique retail locations.
In his first decade at Disney, Padgett held a diverse number of business and financial planning executive roles within travel industry sales, consumer marketing, travel operations, facilities, utilities, engineering, transportation and manufacturing.
Padgett holds 35 patents and multiple innovation awards for wearable devices, experience itinerary scheduling and optimization, digital experience interaction platforms and operational processes.
He earned a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in management science and a bachelor's degree in finance from Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business.
